Isetan in Tampines Mall will close down in November 2025.

The mall informed the public of the impending closure of the Japanese department store in a Facebook post on May 6.

There was no mention of the new tenant or tenants that are taking over the space.

Tampines Mall wrote: "We’re transforming the space to bring you an elevated shopping experience with the latest in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle."

It added: "Something exciting is on the horizon — stay tuned!"

Opened for 30 years

A community social media account about happenings in Tampines paid tribute to Isetan.

It wrote that the department store was "the anchor tenant in Tampines Mall" after the mall had its soft opening in November 1995.

Isetan opened at the same time as the mall.

Isetan's departure will be on its 30th anniversary at Tampines Mall.

In the comments section, patrons paid tribute to Isetan.

One wrote: "I used to shop there with my parents when I was little."

Another hazarded a guess as to what caused Isetan's demise: "Guess this is the result of lots of online shopping? Lesser people go out to shop nowadays."

Only 2 Isetan department stores left

In 1972, Isetan in Havelock made history as the first Japanese department store in Singapore.

The flagship store at Havelock was relocated in 1993 to Isetan Scotts, which opened at Shaw House.

With Isetan's closure in Tampines Mall, the department store will have two outlets left in Singapore: Isetan Scotts in Shaw House and Isetan Serangoon in Nex.

Isetan has been closing stores over the years.

Isetan Katong at Parkway Parade closed in March 2022.

Isetan Jurong at Westgate Mall was shuttered in March 2020.
