As the dust settles over GE2025, Progress Singapore Party's (PSP) secretary-general Leong Mun Wai shared his thoughts on the results and congratulated his opponent.

Leong took to Facebook on May 7 to share that it took him a few days to "recover from the shock result" of the general election.

While the results were not what the party had hoped for, he said PSP accepts the people's decision "with humility and respect": "Democracy speaks through the ballot box. We honour that voice, even though it brings disappointment."

Leong thanked the residents of West Coast-Jurong West GRC, adding that it was PSP's honour to "walk alongside you and to champion your concerns".

He also noted the passion and energy of the PSP volunteers, campaign team, and supporters.

"We may have fallen short this time, but this journey has only strengthened our commitment to you and to the future of this nation," Leong added.

Congratulated opponent

Leong also congratulated the People's Action Party (PAP) for its victory, noting that those in PSP learned a lot from how PAP ran its campaign and that its West Coast-Jurong West team leader, Desmond Lee, was a "worthy opponent".

The opposition politician urged the PAP to continue to listen to the residents and deliver on their promises.

"To fellow Singaporeans, though this result is disappointing for us, it is not the end. Our call for checks and balances, an inclusive society and fairer opportunities for all remains unshaken. We will regroup, reflect, and return stronger."

PSP's GE2025 results

PSP lost every seat it contested in GE2025.

At Bukit Gombak SMC, PSP's Harish Pillay received 24.17 per cent of the votes, losing to PAP's Low Yen Ling.

At Kebun Baru, PSP's Tony Tan lost to PAP's Henry Kwek after receiving 31.5 per cent of the votes.

At Pioneer SMC, PSP's Stephanie Tan got 34.58 per cent of the votes, losing to PAP's Patrick Tay.

At Marymount SMC, PSP’s Jeffrey Khoo recieved only 29.3 per cent of the votes, losing to PAP’s Gan Siow Huang.

At West Coast-Jurong West GRC, PSP's team, led by party leader Tan Cheng Bock, got 39.99 per cent, losing to PAP's team led by Lee.

When the sample count was announced, Leong shared that the results were "very shocking" to them, but as the "people have spoken", they will study the results "seriously and humbly" to reconsider how they can "gain further trust from the people".

In 2020, PSP put up a close fight in West Coast, losing to the PAP with only 48.32 per cent of the votes.

The close fight earned PSP two Non-constituency Members of Parliament seats in the 14th Parliament of Singapore, which Leong and Hazel Poa occupied.
