Orthopaedic surgeon & businessman Anji Sinha likely to be the next US ambassador to S'pore

The potential U.S. ambassador to Singapore is likely to be Anji Sinha, an Indian American orthopaedic surgeon and entrepreneur from Florida, President Donald Trump's home state.

The U.S. Department of State presented Sinha as a candidate to the Committee on Foreign Relations in a Certificate of Competency dated May 2, 2025.

The Certificate of Competency must be presented to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee for presidential nominees to be the Chief of Mission.

The Senate Committee on Foreign Relations will hold a hearing to confirm its nominees. The date for Sinha's hearing has not been confirmed. 

Well qualified to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Singapore: report

The report identified Sinha as a preeminent surgeon specialising in orthopaedics and sports medicine. He has also served as a senior surgical consultant in Florida.

The report described Sinha as someone with "extensive experience working with both the public and private sectors, and with medical, legal, and business operators across the health care sector".

He is also a renowned and lifelong philanthropist in both the U.S. and India.

"His appreciation for Singapore’s role as a financial hub, and his own business expertise — particularly in the life sciences and healthcare sectors – render him well qualified to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Singapore," the note said.

Sinha is a graduate of MGM Medical School and Delhi University in India, with a Masters of Ortophedic Surgery.

He has been married to Kiki Sinha, a retired anesthesiologist and NYU faculty, for 48 years.

They have a daughter, a son, and three grandchildren.

Highly respected entrepreneur with an incredible family: Trump

Sinha's name was first mentioned by Trump on a Truth Social post on Mar. 11.

Trump described Sinha as a "highly respected entrepreneur with an incredible family".

"The United States' relationship with Singapore is vital, and I have no doubt that Anji will strongly represent our Nation's Interests, and put America First".
