A woman was pulled from the rubble on Mar. 31, three days after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Mar. 28.

Footage of the rescue was posted online.

The 10-minute clip showed rescuers trying to locate and secure the victim trapped under a collapsed building.

They did not appear to have tools or machinery to extract the victim other than a hammer and a metal bar.

According to Chinese media, the collapsed building was a hotel.

It was also widely reported that the woman was 19 years old.

What the video showed

The video showed the rescuer chipping away at a small opening to get to the trapped woman.

He was assisted by other rescuers who could only surround him.

The crevice was barely large enough for the man to put his head and a part of his upper torso inside.

After the opening was enlarged, a metal bar was used to lift the rubble to free up more space.

When the woman, who was dressed in a grey top, was eventually pulled out, applause rang out.

She was seen wearing gloves, which were handed to her while she was trapped so that she could manoeuvre and pull herself to safety from the inside.

First 72 hours after quake crucial

The first 72 hours after a disaster are widely regarded as the “golden” window to reach victims buried alive under rubble, CNN reported.

After that period, the chances of survival without a water source diminish rapidly.
