A 24-year-old woman died after she fell from a roller coaster at an amusement park in Delhi, India, last week.

Priyanka Rawat had been taking the ride with her fiancé when she fell from a height of around six metres.

She sustained deep injuries from the accident, including a deep wound on her right leg, a puncture wound on the left leg, as well as multiple abrasions on the right forearm and left knee.

She was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

What happened

According to local news outlets, Rawat and her 26-year-old fiancé went to the Fun N Food Water & Amusement Park on a weekday evening, where they took different rides throughout the day.

The couple decided to take the roller coaster ride at around 6:15pm, and Rawat allegedly fell when the swing reached its peak, according to local police.

The roller coaster was shut down after the incident, and the police questioned the ride operator, the supervisor, and the amusement park’s operations manager.

Police said further investigations are ongoing to learn the exact sequence of events and responsibility for the incident.

Since Rawat's death, family members have also questioned the inadequate safety measures of the amusement park.

Times Network and The Times of India reported that the main reason for the fall was a seat belt malfunction.

Amusement park owner said first time such an incident happened

Santokh Singh Chawla, the owner and adviser of the park, told Times Network and The Times of India this was the first time such an incident had happened since its park's opening 33 years ago.

He said that the park is cooperating with the police in their investigation and extends its deepest sympathies to the victim's family.

Chawla added that the park took safety very seriously, adding that they quickly sent the victim to the hospital following the incident, and the ride was immediately shut down.

Rawat had just gotten engaged to her fiancé in February this year, and had plans to get married to him next year.
