Man, 26, 2 women aged 22 & 31, arrested for stealing milk powder, 71 tins worth S$4,000 recovered

A police report lodged regarding milk powder allegedly stolen from a supermarket in HarbourFront led to their arrests.

The police have arrested a man, 26, and two women, aged 22 and 31, for their suspected involvement in a case of shop theft.

On Apr. 24, at about 10:35am, the police received a report claiming that several tins of milk powder had allegedly been stolen from a supermarket at 1 HarbourFront Walk, which is the address of VivoCity shopping mall.

The identities of the trio were established and they were arrested on Apr. 25.

A total of 71 tins of milk powder, amounting to about S$4,000, were recovered.

The trio will be charged in court on Apr. 26 with the offence of theft in dwelling with common intention.

The offence carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

The police said they take a serious view of shop theft cases and offenders will be dealt with firmly.

The police added that they will continue to work closely with stakeholders and the community to prevent and deter cases of shop theft.

Retailers are reminded to remain vigilant for shop theft, especially when large crowds are expected.

Retailers are advised to ensure a good line of sight for the displays, install surveillance cameras with at the entrance or exit of the store, as well as display expensive merchandise in locked showcases or at prominent locations.
