Shanmugam praises PAP Sengkang candidate Bernadette Giam's speech in Tamil on Nomination Day

Nomination Day has come and gone, but people are still talking about all that went down on that eventful day.

K Shanmugam, Minister for Law and Home Affairs, shared a video of Bernadette Giam, PAP's candidate for Sengkang GRC giving her acceptance speech.

Giam, who is Chinese, spoke in Tamil to cheers from the audience. She said the following (translated):

"Hello all. We are the candidates for Sengkang GRC. Give your support to us, vote for the PAP. Thank you!"

On Apr. 25, Shanmugam said in a Facebook post that it was an "incredible effort" and "so well-delivered."

He added:

"I think many Tamils are both proud and gobsmacked!

I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing.

Well done, Bernadette!"

Giam is competing in Sengkang GRC which was won by the Workers' Party (WP) in 2020, while Shanmugam is leading the PAP team in Nee Soon GRC.
