PSP introduces candidates for Chua Chu Kang & Bukit Gombak, team includes Lawrence Pek
Gearing up.
The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) announced that it will be fielding new member Lawrence Pek as part of its four-member team for Chua Chu Kang GRC.
It will also field ex-CEC member Harish Pillay at Bukit Gombak SMC, which was newly formed following the release of the of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee’s (EBRC) report.
Chua Chu Kang
At a doorstop interview on Apr. 19 at Teck Whye Square, chairman of PSP Tan Cheng Bock introduced the candidates.
Pek, 55, is the former Secretary-General of the Singapore Manufacturing Federation.
He will be joined by intellectual property and tech lawyer Wendy Low, 48, safety practitioner and former PSP CEC member A’bas Kasmani, 71 and S. Nallakaruppan, 60, a stockbroker and president of the Society of Remisiers,
This will be PSP's second time contesting Chua Chu Kang.
Chua Chu Kang GRC now includes the Tengah estates previously from Hong Kah North, as well as areas from Holland-Bukit Timah.
Bukit Gombak
The Bukit Gombak and Hillview estates were also carved out to form a new Bukit Gombak SMC.
Standing in Bukit Gombak is Harish Pillay, 65, an educator with experience in the tech sector.
According to the PSP, Harish is internationally known as a pioneer in the Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) movement, co-founding the Singapore Linux Users’ Group in 1993.
Facing PAP
The party will be facing a PAP team led by Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong.
Its slate of candidates were unveiled on Apr. 14, 2025.
Along with Gan, the team includes Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, and new faces neuroscientist Choo Pei Ling and ex-civil servant Jeffrey Siow.
Meanwhile, Senior Minister of State Low Yen Ling will be fielded in Bukit Gombak SMC.
During the 2020 elections, PSP lost against the PAP team, who got a vote share of 58.64 per cent.
It was about an 18 percentage point drop from the 2015 election.
It was the PSP’s best performance after West Coast GRC and Marymount SMC.
