A man who previously caused a 76-year-old man's death in 2023 after colliding with him, has been hauled up to court again, this time for punching a lady bus driver.

The Malaysian man punched the driver six times on her head after getting angry at having to wait about 11 minutes for the bus, reported Shin Min Daily News.

Looi Kai Ye, 38, subsequently faced a total of five charges, including voluntarily causing hurt, mischief and public nuisance.

Looi is a Singapore permanent resident.

He pleaded guilty to one of the charges on Apr. 7, and the remaining charges were considered for sentencing.

He was eventually sentenced to six weeks' jail.

Yelled and punched bus captain

At about 8am on Jan. 21, Looi was waiting for bus service 59 at a bus stop near Block 141 Tampines Avenue 2.

After waiting for about 11 minutes, he grew impatient as the bus had not arrived.

When the bus finally appeared, Looi entered the bus and started yelling and attacking the victim.

He punched the victim on the left side of the head at least six times.

A passenger who saw the attack stopped Looi and took him out of the bus, while another passenger helped evacuate other passengers off the bus.

The victim was subsequently sent to Changi General Hospital for treatment and was provided three days of sick leave.

Suffers from autism and bipolar disorder

Looi was arrested by the police the next day on Jan. 22, and subsequently charged and sent to the Institute of Mental Health for a psychiatric evaluation.

In their statement, the prosecution pointed out that Looi has a slew of prior offences and was previously sentenced to eight months and one week in jail on Feb. 23, 2024.

In one incident, a man and his wife were walking towards a bus stop at Tampines Avenue 2 near Block 101 on Sep. 5, 2023, when Looi collided with him.

The man was flung against a metal railing before falling to the ground.

He later passed away in the hospital from a severe head injury.

Looi was found to have autism and bipolar disorder, but a psychiatric assessment conducted at the IMH in September 2023 said that he was not of an unsound mind during the Sep. 5 incident.

He also pleaded guilty then to voluntarily causing hurt by pushing a 67-year-old woman on the chest, and molesting a 27-year-old woman.
