M'sian woman, 37, stuck in traffic jam at Woodlands Checkpoint, hits motorcycle & pulls pillion rider's helmet, causing her to fall
Road rage.
A Malaysian woman, who lost her temper during a traffic jam at the Woodlands Checkpoint, pulled the helmet off a pillion rider and caused her to fall.
Lim Yuen Mei, 37, pleaded guilty on Apr. 8 to one count of intentional hurt and mischief and was sentenced to five months in prison, with the judge taking another charge into consideration.
Road rage
On Oct. 10, 2023, at around 7:30pm, Lim was stuck in a traffic jam at Woodlands Checkpoint.
Lim was behind the victim, 25-year-old Looi Kai Lim, who was riding pillion with her boyfriend on a motorcycle.
All parties were heading towards Malaysia.
As the traffic was slow-going and heavy, both vehicles started and stopped, resulting in Lim's car colliding with the motorcycle twice.
This led to Looi removing her helmet and gesturing to Lim that she had collided with the bike.
Looi's boyfriend decided to move to the motorcycle lane on the left.
While doing so, Lim squeezed forward through a gap on the right, hitting the bike's rear end.
Looi lost her balance, and her helmet accidently hit the car.
However, Lim perceived Looi to have purposely hit her car with the helmet and got out of the vehicle to confront the victim.
Lim then pulled on Looi's helmet, causing her to fall, hitting her head and knees.
While Looi was still on the ground, Lim hit her on the back.
Looi then got up and fought back until her boyfriend stepped in to separate them.
Ultimately, Lim walked over to the motorcycle and pushed it to the ground.
Injuries
On Oct. 11, 2023, Looi sought medical treatment at Sengkang General Hospital, where she was diagnosed to have suffered multiple contusions and was issued two days of medical leave.
The prosecution argued that while the harm caused was low, Lim was the one who approached the victim and attacked her without provocation.
In court on Apr. 8, 2025, Lim asked for a lighter sentence so that she could return to Malaysia to work and take care of her family, Lianhe Zaobao reported.
However, the judge sentenced her to five months' imprisonment.
The prosecution also sought S$174.40 in compensation from Lim for Looi's medical expenses, but Lim chose to serve an extra two days in jail instead.
