3 M'sian men on sampan illegally entered S'pore waters, 'sped off' when approached by coast guard
When pursued, the sampan made dangerous manouevres that threw two of the men off.
Three Malaysian men entered Singapore territorial waters on a sampan and tried to escape when approached by the Police Coast Guard (PCG) on Apr. 18.
All three were subsequently arrested, according to a police news release.
Dangerous pursuit
On Apr. 18 at 2:05pm, PCG officers were patrolling the waters near Pulau Sarimbun, off Singapore's north-western coast, when they saw an unidentified sampan.
When the PCG vessel approached to conduct checks, the sampan sped off towards Malaysia.
With PCG in pursuit, the sampan made dangerous manouevres that threw two of the men overboard. It also collided with the PCG vessel twice.
A PCG officer sustained minor injuries from the pursuit.
Three men arrested for illegal entry
PCG eventually stopped the sampan and the two men managed to climb back on.
The three men, aged between 28 and 47, were subsequently arrested for illegal entry into Singapore waters, and the sampan was seized.
The 28-year-old boatman is also under investigation for rash navigation and failure to comply with a lawful order to stop.
Police investigations are ongoing.
