A Japanese man who spent 10 years saving up for a Ferrari lost his ride in one hour after picking it up.

This was after the supercar's engine caught fire.

According to Japanese media, the incident occurred on Apr. 16, along a highway in Tokyo's Minato ward.

The car, a Ferrari 458 Spider, cost about ¥43 million (S$395,900), Malaysian media Sin Chew Daily reported.

Owner uninjured

In a tweet on Apr. 16, the owner of the car said his vehicle had burned to ashes an hour after delivery and added that he is probably the only person in Japan to have such an experience.

He had been driving along the highway when he noticed white smoke pouring out of his vehicle.

He stopped and got out of his vehicle to report that his vehicle was on fire.

He did not sustain any injuries and the fire was eventually put out after 20 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

Many Japanese users have since expressed sympathy for the owner's predicament.

There was no mention of the vehicle's insurance status.
