Woman, 28, arrested at Changi Airport for allegedly stealing 4 perfume bottles, worth about S$742
If convicted, the woman may be given a maximum of seven years in jail, fined, or both.
A 28-year-old woman was arrested at Changi Airport Terminal 2 for allegedly stealing four bottles of perfume, valued at about S$742, on Mar. 15.
The woman, who is an Indian national, will be charged in court for theft on Mar. 20, according to a press release by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) on Mar. 19.
4 perfume bottles stolen
The police were alerted to a suspected theft case at The Shilla Duty Free Cosmetic Shop located at Changi Airport Terminal 2 Departure Transit area after retail staff noticed two perfume bottles were missing during an inventory stocktake.
CCTV footage revealed that the woman had entered the retail shop and allegedly took the two bottles without paying.
The staff alerted a security officer on patrol, and the officer managed to locate and detain the woman before she could depart from Singapore.
The 28-year-old surrendered only one bottle of perfume when confronted by the officer.
However upon searching her bag, an additional three perfume bottles were found inside.
Preliminary investigations found that the woman had gone into another retail shop where she took another two bottles of perfume and left the shop without paying.
All four bottles of perfume were recovered and returned to the retail shops.
If convicted, the woman may be given a maximum of seven years in jail, fined, or both.
The police said they take a serious view of shop theft cases and warned that offenders will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law.
