A new face was spotted on a Mar. 30 People's Action Party (PAP) walkabout at Eunos Crescent Market and Food Centre.

Minister for Manpower and Member of Parliament (MP) for Marine Parade, Tan See Leng, introduced the new face, Diana Pang, to The Straits Times (ST) as a long-time volunteer in East Coast GRC.

Who is Diana Pang?

Pang, 51, is a business development director with over 19 years of experience in audit, tax, and business advisory.

She is also the chairperson of the Fengshan Women's Executive Committee (WEC) and the People's Association Women's Integration Network Council (WIN Council), which she has served since 2014.

She has been leading several key initiatives, such as the WIN Caregivers Network, which provides support for caregivers.

Last year, Pang organised a Financial Planning for Women event for residents.

Pang also actively contributes to the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) Board, providing governance and legal support.

When asked by ST why she was entering politics, Pang said she wants to help in making Singapore a place “where family thrives, and we can build trust and resolve with our heart and passion”.

Pang added that if given the opportunity, she was "here to serve the country anywhere and everywhere".

ST: "An early introduction"

Also present at the walkabout were the Mayor of South East District and MP for Geylang Serai Fahmi Aliman and Minister of State for Ministry of Home Affairs of Singapore Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim.

The four of them were reportedly seen greeting hawkers and residents who were having breakfast.

ST described the appearance of the four as "what appeared to be an early introduction of PAP's potential...slate" for the area.

Faishal, who entered politics as an MP for Marine Parade GRC in 2006 before joining Nee Soon GRC in 2011, said that being back in the east made him "feel like the good memories are coming back".

He was also happy to see some of the residents who had recognised him since 2006.

Potential multi-cornered fight

PAP has yet to announce its candidates for the new Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC for GE2025.

On Mar. 22, former chief executive officer (CEO) of non-profit organisation Make-A-Wish Singapore Hazlina Abdul Halim was spotted on a walkabout at a Marine Terrace Market, fueling rumours that she might be fielded as a candidate for this constituency.

The latest electoral boundary changes saw neighbouring East Coast GRC taking parts of Marine Parade GRC— Chai Chee HDB estates and Joo Chiat ward.

It also saw Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC absorbing the current MacPherson SMC and some parts of Potong Pasir SMC and Mountbatten SMC.

Both the Workers' Party (WP) and the National Solidarity Party have announced their intention to contest the Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.

This means that the GRC might see a multi-cornered fight in the upcoming election.
