Longtime DBS CEO Piyush Gupta has officially stepped down.

In a video posted on TikTok, Gupta was filmed being sent off by by a crowd of well-wishers at the end of his last working day.

He had presided over his final annual general meeting on Mar. 28 — a milestone which he previously said would mark his retirement after a 15-year tenure as CEO.

Addressing the crowd, he said:

"I love all of you people.

I'm leaving a big part of myself and my heart."

As he made his way out, the crowd — armed with DBS-themed clappers, balloons, and signs — regaled him with a rendition of "Auld Lang Syne", a traditional Scottish farewell song.

End of an era

Gupta has been the banking group's CEO since 2009.

During his tenure, DBS was named "World's Best Bank" by publications such as Euromoney and Global Finance.

He was awarded the Public Service Star by Singapore's President in 2020.

He is succeeded by Tan Su Shan, a 56-year-old Singaporean who assumed the role of deputy CEO last August.

An Oxford graduate with over 35 years of experience in the finance industry, she has won numerous accolades over the years.

Tan became the first Singaporean to be recognised as the world's best leader in private banking in 2014.

In 2018, she was nominated by Forbes as one of the "Top 25 emergent Asian Woman Business leaders".
