M'sia college student, 19, gets 240 hours of community service for rape of underaged girl
The maximum punishment was a jail term of 20 years and whipping.
A 19-year-old student in Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia pleaded guilty to the rape of an underaged girl.
He was sentenced to undergo 240 hours of community service within 12 months, The Star reported.
Victim had not yet turned 15
Muhammad Amirullah Zaazuren committed the offence at a house in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan, just past midnight on Dec. 30, 2024.
The victim was 14, three months shy of her 15th birthday.
Amirullah did not contest the charge, and was unrepresented in court. He was ordered to deposit RM4,000 (S$1,200) as collateral with the court.
Judge Surita Budin ordered Amirullah to report to the nearest police station on the first day of every month, and attend counselling sessions.
He must also notify the authorities if he moves to another place.
Pleaded for lighter sentence
Amirullah was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 20 years, and whipping.
However, Amirullah pleaded for minimal punishment and wanted a low bond amount as his mother "already had to service bank loans."
The judge warned Amirullah that if he failed to complete his community service or violated any other conditions, he would be brought back to court and charged under the "principal offence".
He would also forfeit the collateral.
