Applications for the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance for full-time training will open on Mar. 10, 2025, allowing eligible citizens to receive up to S$3,000 per month while pursuing upskilling or reskilling.

The application commencement date was announced by education minister Chan Chun Seng during Parliament's Committee of Supply debates on Mar. 6.

It will apply to eligible training from Apr. 1, 2025, including courses that have commenced, with the first disbursement commencing the following month.

Chan also noted that from early 2026, a fixed training allowance of S$300 per month will be provided to those undertaking part-time training.

"This will give workers more flexibility to choose between part-time or full-time training depending on their specific needs and personal circumstances," said Chan.

What is this training allowance?

The training allowance of S$300 per month — previously announced by Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong in his 2025 Budget statement — will be given to Singaporeans aged 40 and above pursuing part-time training under SkillsFuture from early 2026.

The allowance can be used to defray incidental training expenses like books and transport.

With this extension, Singaporeans aged 40 and above can enjoy up to 24 months of SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance, regardless of whether the training is full-time or part-time.

For those taking time off work to pursue full-time training, a monthly allowance of up to S$3,000 is provided as part of the SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme (SFLP).

The SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme (SFLP)

The SFLP was introduced in Budget 2024 to support mid-career Singaporeans aged 40 and above to upskill.

Eligible individuals who take time off work to pursue full-time long-form training can tap on the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Training Allowance to partially offset the loss in income.

The full-time training allowance provided is equivalent to 50 per cent of the individual's average income over the latest available 12-month period, capped at S$3,000 per month.
