A man in Singapore has apparently been scouring the streets for "fit" women and hitting on them out of the blue.

He defended the act, explaining that it was meant to galvanise like-minded men to step out of their shells.

Suspecting that he cannot and will not stop, one of his latest targets, Faith, has reached out to Mothership in a bid to warn other women.

On the prowl

Faith's encounter with the man occurred at Orchard MRT on the morning of Mar. 18.

In footage now deleted from his TikTok page, the man trained his camera on Faith's back as he tailed her for a bit.

Then he hit her with his opening line.

"Excuse me, do you go to the gym?" he asked.

Looking slightly confused, Faith responded with an affirmative.

The man came back with: "Yeah, I saw you look really fit."

He then launched into a self-introduction; he was a gym rat, new to Singapore, and looking to "meet new friends".

He used that to segue into asking her to hang out together, but was promptly shut down by Faith.

"I have a boyfriend though," she said before walking away.

One of the many

Chalking the interaction up to a mere passing encounter—perhaps a cringey story to titter over with friends—Faith didn't think much more of it.

Until she discovered that the guy had secretly recorded the entire exchange and posted it on his TikTok.

A gander at his page revealed a host of similar videos.

The first of such was titled "Pick Up 100 Girls in Singapore" and captioned "that's how I met your mother".

According to the title of her video, Faith was "girl number seven".

She pointed to unsavoury comments from male users who egged the TikToker on, expressing worry that he'd be spurred to continue approaching other women in this manner.

Along with concerned friends, Faith confronted the man via DM and his comments section.

But he just blocked her and reported their comments.

He only deleted the video of her after facing backlash from multiple people, said Faith.

But what of the other unsuspecting victims?

Although he'd taken down Faith's clip, the guy’s TikTok page still housed the other videos of him testing out his pick up "skills".

The majority of exchanges began with him commenting on the girls' looks—many of whom he thought were "exotic".

The conversation always steered back to him asking if they went to the gym.

Like Faith, some other targets also seemed to display signs of unease despite politely holding the conversation for a bit.

The persistent man also tried tagging along with the girls.

He even shadowed one all the way up to what appeared to be her doorstep.

For the sake of a man's confidence

Responding to Mothership’s queries, the man said that he’s been doing this for about a month.

"If [the girl] feels uncomfortable, I would just leave," he said.

The man went on to acknowledge that filming girls without their consent was wrong and apologised for it.

He promptly wiped all videos from his account and changed his username.

Nevertheless, he seemed to stand by the general principle of his "pick up" methodology.

"I want guys to not be afraid to talk to girls and be more confident. They can make a girl happy by complimenting them and potentially find a girlfriend."

Speaking to Mothership, Faith said that the man had elicited feelings of disgust in her.

"[I felt] creeped out, violated, offended, and honestly sort of scared."
