UPDATE on Mar. 11 at 8:30pm: This article has been updated to include a statement from Cold Storage.

A small fire broke out at the rotisserie section of a Cold Storage outlet in Singapore on Mar. 10 at around 6:20pm.

A supermarket patron, who is a Mothership reader, said he was at the Cold Storage at Marina One in hopes to purchase a roast chicken for his salad when he encountered the fire.

However, things got a little heated.

He said he saw a chicken wrapped in a paper bag near the food warmer catching fire.

This led to other chickens in the section catching fire as well.

One brave lady tried to move one of the flaming chickens with her bare hands, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, another man tried to put out the fire with water, but also failed.

The reader then alerted a cashier to the flame.

The cashier appeared with a fire extinguisher to combat the growing blaze, but apparently did not know how to use it.

The reader took the fire extinguisher from the cashier and put out the flames.

The cashier took photos of the burnt chicken and reported it to his team before resuming his duties at the checkout counter.

In the aftermath of the ordeal, the reader shared that he was "mildly concerned" to see the cashier "fumble" with the extinguisher.

While he does not believe there were any injuries from the fire, he said "the first lady shopping for chicken alongside me at the rotisserie section attempted to move the flaming (literally) chicken with her bare hands and may have gotten a light ouchie, but don't think anyone was injured (except the chicken)".

In response to Mothership's queries, a spokesperson from Cold Storage said they are aware of the incident involving a minor fire at their ready-to-eat counter where their BBQ chickens are displayed.

"We appreciate our customers' swift response in assisting our team members to quickly extinguish the fire and ensure everyone's safety," the spokesperson added.

No injuries were reported.

"As a precaution, we have temporarily suspended the sale of our ready-to-eat BBQ chicken at Cold Storage Marina One."
