The owner of a karaoke bar and her husband were about to head home in the wee hours of Mar. 25 when they were attacked by two men.

The men, who were visibly intoxicated, punched the woman, pulled out a chunk of her hair, and slammed her face onto the ground.

They were reportedly employees of a shop in Cuppage Plaza, the woman told The Straits Times.

A Chinese national, 41, was later arrested for public nuisance.

Taunts and punches

The woman, Ng Siew Ching, said that they had been about to enter a lift in Cuppage Plaza when they bumped into a group of two men and two women.

Ng told ST that they had been exiting the lift at the same time when one of the men went up to Ng's husband and tried to whisper in his ear.

Ng, who also spoke to Shin Min, said her husband told the man to leave them alone if they were drunk.

This reportedly incensed the men, and they taunted and pushed her husband.

But when Ng tried to separate the pair, she was allegedly punched instead.

Ng told ST that the fight escalated, with the two men allegedly attacking the couple, pulling Ng by her hair and slamming her face on the ground, she said.

It only stopped after Ng's employees and the alleged assailants' bosses intervened.

“An employee had to prise the man’s hand open because he was pulling my hair and I couldn’t move,” she said.

She claimed that her employees were assaulted as well.

Police called

Ng subsequently decided to call the police.

In response to Mothership's queries, the police confirmed that they were alerted to a fight at 5 Koek Road at around 3am on Mar. 25.

A 33-year-old man and 28-year-old woman were conveyed conscious to hospital.

A 41-year-old man was arrested for public nuisance, and also conveyed conscious to hospital.

He is assisting with investigations for voluntarily causing hurt, the police said.

After the assault, Ng reported having been hospitalised for one night, and sustaining bruises on her face and legs.

She also lost a chunk of her hair.

Meanwhile, her husband had bruises and was breathless after the incident, but did not need to be hospitalised.

Police investigations are ongoing.
