'Squid Game' actress Lee Joo Shil dies aged 81
She acted as the mother of Hwang Jun Ho, who played a police detective who snuck into Squid Game.

Korean actress Lee Joo Shil, who starred in the hit Netflix show “Squid Game", has died.
She was 81.

Cardiac Arrest
After suffering a cardiac arrest on Feb. 2, 2025, she was transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital.
She passed away on the same day, in Uijeongbu, South Korea.
Her death was announced by her talent agency, 1230culture.
Her funeral procession will be held on Feb. 5 in Sinchon, South Korea.
The agency stated that Lee had been diagnosed with stomach cancer in November 2024.
She was also diagnosed before with stage three breast cancer in 1993, but had overcome it after chemotherapy.

Shas acted in various Korean films and dramas, including the hit zombie movie, “Train to Busan”, and “The Uncanny Counter”.
She also performed in Korea’s theatres for stage productions, such as “Death of a Salesman” and “Macbeth”.
