Youths wreck West Coast laundry store, 1 climbs into dryer
The laundry store said the ruckus has driven away their customers.

A 24-hour laundry store located at Block 801 West Coast has been frequently vandalised by a group of youths who litter and cause a ruckus inside.
Cleanpro Express Self-Service Laundry, which opened in August 2024, said the youths have been vandalising the store since its opening.
Employees said the same group of boys, around eight, would often visit the store between 1:30am and 5am.

Photos and videos sent to Mothership showed the group of youths loitering around the laundry store and casually sitting on benches.

The boys would sit on the benches and chat with one another, sometimes bringing food and drinks.
They also frequently rode their bikes in the store, and some boys used the store's extension cord to charge their personal mobility devices (PMDs).

At one point, one youth also climbed inside a dryer.

"After the boy climbed into the dryer, the dryer's hinges were loosened and had to be tightened back in place," said a staff member.
They also recalled an incident where two boys broke the drink vending machine display cover by kicking it.

The aftermath: tyre marks and sticky residue

Sticky residue can also be found, with staff telling Mothership that the boys would often buy food and soft drinks from a convenience store nearby and consume them in their laundry store.
Similar residue was found on the store's table and chairs, meant for customers to sit or fold their laundry.
The staff added the boys would litter finished snack packets and bottles in the laundry store.
Significant damage to machines and financial strains
The vandalism caused "significant damage" to the store's "machines, internet wiring, and overall facility infrastructure," leading to "considerable financial strain due to frequent repair costs and operational disruptions," said the laundry staff.
"These disturbances have driven away our customers, who can no longer rely on the safety and functionality of our services," they added.
Cleanpro Express Self-Service Laundry said they contacted the police about the situation, but "there has been little progress" and said "the lack of action" has left them feeling "neglected and frustrated."
"Businesses should not have to suffer due to irresponsible behaviour, and such acts of vandalism cannot be tolerated in our community," they said.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) told Mothership, "The police confirm that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing."
