Ex-Mendaki manager, 51, charged after allegedly trying 3 times to get S$1,061 laptop as bribe

A 51-year-old former Yayasan Mendaki (Mendaki) manager allegedly tried to obtain a Lenovo Thinkpad laptop worth S$1,061 in exchange for accepting a contractor's tender.

Tried to get S$1,061 laptop as bribe 3 times

Singapore permanent resident Zulkifli bin Kader, who served as a digital information technology manager at the self-help group, was charged in court on Feb. 4 for alleged corruption, according to a Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) release.

On three occasions between April and May 2023, Zulkifli allegedly tried to get the laptop from an employee of A-Speed Pte Ltd, a network systems integration service provider in Singapore.

In exchange, Zulkifli allegedly offered to accept the company's tender for works linked to Mendaki.

The laptop was valued at a sum of at least S$1,061.61.

Pleaded not guilty

CPIB said that Zulkifli was charged in court on Feb. 4 for his alleged attempts at obtaining gratification.

Zulkifli pleaded not guilty, according to CNA.

He is set to return to court on Mar. 5.

Those found guilty of a corruption offence can be jailed up to five years, or fined up to S$100,000, or both.

Those convicted of an offence under Section 124(8)(a)(ii) of the Criminal Procedure Code can face two times the amount of punishment liable for that offence.
