Scoot reinstates payment processing fees for S'pore flights, tickets paid by cards to cost 1.40%-2.26% more
It already went into effect on Feb. 10, 2025.
Thinking of flying with Scoot soon? Your ticket will cost slightly more than before if you are paying with a credit or debit card.
The budget airline has reinstated payment processing fees for bookings originating from Singapore since Feb. 10, 2025.
The fees were previously scrapped by Scoot in 2019 for customers who made their bookings directly from the airline.
Ticket paid by cards to cost 1.40% to 2.26% more
In response to Mothership's queries, Scoot said the payment processing fees serve to "cover the cost of processing fees that respective financial institutions charge" when customers use payment options, such as their credit or debit cards.
The fee, which is calculated as a percentage of the transaction amount — in other words, the sum of fare, add-ons, taxes, and any surcharges — will range from 1.4 per cent to 2.26 per cent.
However, the fees do not apply for transactions made with payment methods, such as PayNow, Scoot vouchers, and KrisFlyer miles, said Scoot.
"Customers can decide on the payment option that best suits their needs," the statement read.
Scoot added that it will "continue to review its fees and charges regularly" and "make adjustments where required".
Similar fees reportedly reintroduced for certain locations in 2024
The Straits Times reported that Scoot's reinstatement of payment processing fees for flights leaving Singapore came after similar fees were reintroduced for flights departing areas, such as Australia, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand, in 2024.
According to the airline's website, the fees will vary across card types, and the exact amount will be displayed before customers confirm their payments.
