M'sian boy, 5, born with underdeveloped legs, crawls to school by wearing slippers on hands

A Malaysian boy in Kota Tinggi, Johor, has won hearts on TikTok for his sheer resilience.

Muhammad Shairid Hadif Ridhuan Shah, aged five, was born with underdeveloped knees and calves due to a condition known as caudal regression syndrome (CRS).

However, his physical challenges have never been an obstacle for him.

With the support of his mother, he wears slippers on his hands and crawls to kindergarten.

Shairid’s mother, 38-year-old Siti Azah, shared a touching video on TikTok, capturing the moment she accompanied her son to school.

The video showed Shairid waiting in front of his classroom alongside other children.

As the teacher signalled that it was time to leave, he hesitated briefly.

Only after hearing his mother’s encouragement did he begin crawling forward.

During this moment, some of the children who were unaware of his presence on the ground, nearly stepped on him.

Yet, Shairid remained undeterred and continued moving forward.

The heartwarming video quickly gained traction on social media, amassing over 2.7 million views.

In an interview with Malaysian media outlet mStar, Siti revealed that she is a single mother raising five children.

Shairid is her youngest child.

Initially, when he was born, he had no mobility in his feet, but by six months old, he started showing slight movements.

By the time he turned one, he had learned to crawl.

Despite his disability, Siti is determined to help her son live as normal a life as possible.

She has been training him to be independent and to navigate the world in a way that suits him best.

She also mentioned that while some children are surprised upon seeing Shairid’s condition, he remains resilient and is not discouraged by how others perceive him.

As a mother, Siti draws strength from her son’s courage.

Running a pastry business to support her family, she admitted that whenever she feels overwhelmed, watching Shairid’s unwavering spirit reminds her to stay strong and keep moving forward.
