
Barbie Hsu, also known as Big S, has passed away.
She was 48.
Hong Kong media TVBS News reported that she died of pneumonia caused by influenza while in Japan.
Chinese media outlets were reportedly attempting to contact Barbie Hsu’s family, but to no avail initially.
Her younger sister, Dee Hsu, also a Taiwanese celebrity, subsequently responded to confirm her sister's passing.
Dee Hsu's agent told TVBS News on Feb. 3 morning:
"Thank you for your concern! During the New Year, our family travelled to Japan. My dearest and kind sister Xiyuan unfortunately left us due to influenza and pneumonia. I am grateful to be her sister in this life, to take care of each other and accompany each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss her! Shan~ Rest in peace! I will always love you together remember forever."
The social media account of Hsu’s ex-husband Wang Xiaofei has reportedly turned black.
On Jan. 25, Hsu was seen at a wedding with fellow Taiwanese colleagues and friends, including Blackie Chen and Christine Fan.

Sources cited by various Chinese news media claimed that in early February, she travelled with her family to Thailand for the Lunar New Year holiday.
Currently, the rumour of her passing is trending as the number one topic on Weibo.
As an actress and singer best known for her roles in “Meteor Garden”, “Mars” and “Summer’s Desire”, she has not acted in any dramas and has maintained a private life since 2012.
After divorcing businessman Wang Xiaofei in late 2021, she focused on raising her children and did not make a return.
