PHV driver apparently loses control of car at ECP & smashes into concrete barrier
People online discussed possible reasons for the incident, including a medical emergency.
A Toyota car driving along East Coast Parkway (ECP) was caught on camera losing control and crashing into a concrete barrier.
A video of the incident was posted on Facebook page SG Road Vigilante with a caption stating that it occurred on Jan. 23, 2025 at around 1pm near the Rochor exit.
However, in response to Mothership's enquiries, the police confirmed otherwise, saying they were alerted to the accident on Jan. 27 at about 11:15am.
Police said the car is believed to have self-skidded along ECP(AYE) towards Sheares Avenue slip road into Rochor Road.
A 29-year-old female car passenger was conveyed conscious to the hospital.
Meanwhile, a 59-year-old male car driver is assisting with investigations.
Private hire vehicle
The caption also mentioned that the vehicle was a private hire vehicle (PHV).
The car is registered under the Private Hire Scheme, according to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) records checked by Mothership.

Dashcam footage from a vehicle behind the Toyota showed the car veering slightly to the right while travelling along the road.
The vehicle then strayed out of the lane and collided with the concrete barrier.
Comments
Many commenters criticised the driver’s skills.
One described the incident as an "expensive mistake."
However, some expressed sympathy, with one noting that being a PHV driver is not an easy job and that the driver may have fallen asleep from tiredness.
Others also speculated that the driver may have had a medical emergency, such as a heart attack.
