A passenger out of nowhere opened the door of a stationary car and knocked down a motorcyclist travelling towards a traffic light along Paya Lebar Road.

The incident on Jan. 18 evening at around 7:25pm was caught on dashboard camera and shared online.

The short clip showed the front passenger door of a blue car opening just as the motorcyclist was lane-splitting and riding past it.

The motorcyclist was knocked down as a result and clipped the side of the white car beside the blue car.

The impact rocked the white car.

The video ended with the driver of the white car opening the door to step out.

SCDF told Mothership they were alerted to a road traffic accident along Paya Lebar Road at about 7:30pm and one person was conveyed to Changi General Hospital.

Responses

Opinions regarding the actions of the passenger and motorcyclist were split, with commenters blaming both parties.

Many questioned why the passenger had to open the door while waiting in traffic, and asked if it was intentional.

Many also criticised the motorcyclist for lane-splitting at high speed.

Lane-splitting is the practice of straddling in between two lanes to weave through traffic.

Most, however, agreed that a lack of caution and defensive riding contributed to the accident.
