A 73-year-old man was found lying motionless in a unit at Block 102 Bedok North Avenue 4 on Jan. 26.
Police confirmed to Mothership that they were alerted to a case of unnatural death at around 10:25am that day.
Based on their investigation, they do not suspect foul play.
Taxi driver
When Shin Min Daily News reporters visited the block, they found several people gathered outside the flat, discussing funeral arrangements.
The deceased was identified as Fu Zifa (transliteration), who lived alone in the flat.
He was a substitute driver who drove a taxi after the principal hirer had completed his morning shift.
The principal hirer, surnamed Bai, spoke to the Chinese newspaper, explaining that he found Fu dead in the living room after he became uncontactable.
The 70-year-old had been driving the same taxi as Fu for five to six years.
Had Been Unwell
The day before, Fu had complained of feeling unwell and dizzy and told Bai he couldn’t drive in the afternoon.
Bai offered to take him to the hospital, but Fu refused, saying he was going home to see a doctor at the clinic beneath the HDB block.
Fu also mentioned that he had checked his blood pressure, and it was normal.
Knowing that Fu lived alone, Bai decided to check in on him that evening, but Fu didn’t answer his calls.
The next morning, when Fu still didn’t respond, Bai grew concerned and went to the flat to check on him.
When Bai arrived, he found the door slightly ajar and Fu lying on the floor, unresponsive.
He immediately called the police, who later contacted Fu's family.
A kind-hearted man who did charity
Shin Min reported that at least five family members and friends went down to the scene.
Fu's elder sister told Shin Min that Fu was a kind-hearted man who often offered to help people when he knew they needed it.
She said he often did charity, such as buying food for other elderly in need.
