To help his daughter skip the queue at a K-pop concert and keep an eye on her, a Singaporean man, 49, claimed he was a bodyguard for a princess from the Selangor royal family.

He even dressed the part by wearing a suit to look like a bodyguard, according to court documents.

The concert, by South Korean boy band Enhypen, was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium over two days, on Jan. 20 and 21, 2024.

On Jan. 20, the man slipped into the concert with his daughter and her female friend, both of whom were 17 years old, according to court documents.

He was caught on Jan. 21 when he tried to pull the same trick at a second show the following day.

Lied that a princess was attending

The man called the event organiser, Anschutz Entertainment Group, on Jan. 20 to tell them that a "princess from the Selangor royal family" was in attendance.

He told the organiser that he was a bodyguard, and would not have a ticket.

He thus asked to be given access to "ensure the princess' safety".

The organiser then told the man to turn up to the event earlier for an "expedited and escorted entry into the venue".

The man also shared the plan with his daughter, according to court documents.

The man, his daughter, and her friend arrived at the Singapore Indoor Stadium at 6:20pm.

The man was then given a lanyard and two wristbands for special early entry on Jan. 20 and 21.

They made their way into the concert venue on Jan. 20, with the man standing at the entrance area of the concert to observe his daughter.

Security got suspicious

After the concert on Jan. 20, the event manager became suspicious of the man's claims.

They then confirmed that the man's daughter was indeed not a princess from Selangor. They subsequently made a police report.

When the man and his daughter arrived for the second show on Jan. 21, they were caught in the act.

The father pleaded guilty to one count of cheating by personation.

He was fined S$5,000 on Jul. 29, ST reported.
