Commuters at Dhoby Ghaut MRT station from 10am to 4pm on Aug. 6 may be asked to undergo security screening, as announced on the Land Transport Authority (LTA) Facebook page on Jul. 29.

This is part of an emergency preparedness exercises named Exercise Station Guard.

Commuters will be asked to walk through metal detectors or scan their belongings at X-ray machines.

They are advised to factor in additional travel time for their journey.

Commuters are also advised to avoid bringing bulky items as it may require more time to clear security checks.

What are emergency preparedness exercises?

According to LTA, emergency preparedness exercises are conducted regularly to ensure everyone stays vigilant and operationally ready for a possible emergency at public transport nodes.

They also help familiarise commuters on how they should respond in such situations, LTA added.

Since 2018, this screening has reportedly been conducted regularly to validate security measures, contingency plans, and operational readiness at public transport nodes during situations that call for tightened security.

Similar exercises have been conducted at other MRT stations, including Ang Mo Kio, Bugis, Newton, Holland Village, Hougang, Jurong East, and Harbourfront.
