An ex-auxiliary police officer was the leader of a team which seized sexual enhancement drugs from peddlers while patrolling Geylang.

Instead of handing the items over to the police, he kept S$188 worth of the drugs for his own use.

Mohd Aris bin Jalil, 66, was sentenced to six weeks' jail on Tuesday (May 7), according to The Straits Times.

He is no longer working for Certis, the firm which employed him at the time of the offences.

Deployed to lead patrol team in Geylang

Aris was deployed to lead a team called "Golf 3" since 2021, court documents indicated.

This was one of the Foreign Workers Management (FWM) teams formed by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) to patrol areas where foreign workers congregate.

Certis had been contracted to supply auxiliary police officers and security officers for deployment in the FWM teams.

"Golf 3" was attached to Geylang Neighbourhood Police Centre, and tasked to patrol around Geylang.

As part of their duties, Aris and his team had to take action against those selling contraband cigarettes and illegal sex enhancement drugs.

Patrolling officers would seize sex drugs from peddlers in the area, and bring them to a transport vehicle for the FMW team.

Misappropriated S$188 of sex drugs for himself

Aris, however, did not hand over all the seized items to SPF.

Instead, he kept a portion of the sexual enhancement drugs for his own consumption.

The Corrupt Practices Investigations Bureau (CPIB) got wind of offences conducted by "Golf 3" members in August 2022.

On Sep. 13, 2022, Aris was found to have S$188 of misappropriated drugs in his possession during a CPIB search.

The prosecutor said that he took the drugs "knowing this was in contravention of his duties" and chose to do so "at the juncture when no one in the team would notice his actions".

He pleaded guilty to one count of criminal breach of trust on May 7.

Three other men linked to case

Three other men linked to the case were taken to court in November 2023, ST reported.

Mohammad Hafizudin bin Hanapiah, 30, an ex-security officer, admitted in January that he got S$140 in bribes from a peddler of illegal sex enhancement drugs, in exchange for not taking action against him.

He also admitted to working together with Thiru Murugan Shanmugam, 30, an auxiliary policeman, to do this.

Hafizudin and Thiru were both from the "Golf 3" team at the time of the offences.

Hafizudin was sentenced to three months and two weeks’ jail for graft.

The cases against Thiru and the peddler Chen Zixiong, 32, are pending.
