Lufthansa plane front landing gear collapses in Frankfurt, several injured

The aircraft’s landing gear “unexpectedly retracted" when it was parked.

Several staff were injured when the front landing gear of a Lufthansa-operated Boeing 787 Dreamliner collapsed at Frankfurt Airport in Germany.

The incident occurred on Jun. 4 at about 12:45pm, Reuters and DW reported.

In a video circulating online, the nose of the plane was seen dipping suddenly while the aerobridge was attached.

A ramp worker in a high-visibility vest was seen beside the plane’s landing gear before it collapsed.

He appeared to have moved away from the plane as it fell.

Multiple emergency vehicles ‌were reportedly parked ⁠around the aircraft, which partly rested on its belly.

Injured

According to a spokesperson from Lufthansa, several staff ​members were injured and were receiving medical treatment.

The aircraft’s landing gear “unexpectedly retracted" when it was parked, it was reported.

The Lufthansa flight, LH450, was bound for Los Angeles, U.S.

Passengers had not yet boarded the flight.

"We are currently investigating the exact circumstances with the relevant authorities," ​Lufthansa said.

A Boeing spokesperson also said it was aware of ​the incident and was supporting its customers.

No further details were disclosed.

The Lufthansa-operated Boeing 787-9, a variant of the Boeing 787, is a relatively new addition to its fleet.

It is aimed at gradually phasing out less efficient jets and simplifying Lufthansa’s fleet.
