A Thai transgender woman was allegedly attacked by a Chinese tourist at a hotel in Pattaya, Thailand, sustaining multiple lacerations that required stitches.

What happened

According to Reuters, the woman, 25-year-old Bell Aphisara, said she had agreed to provide paid sexual services to the tourist for 2,000 baht (S$78) at the hotel on May 25.

However, the man was said to have flown into a rage and became violent after learning she was biologically male, smashing a mirror and glass bottles before using the shards to slash her while she was crying for help.

Other transgender women in the vicinity heard her cries and entered the room, where they found the man standing over Bell as she was lying bleeding on the bed.

A video of the incident showed the man shouting at Bell to leave the room as she made her way off the bed, with blood streaming down her face.

She was subsequently seen in the corridor, visibly distressed after noticing her injuries.

According to a hotel receptionist, Bell fled downstairs covered in blood and was accompanied by two friends who helped bring her to the hospital.

By the time officers arrived at the room on Pattaya South Soi 9, it was locked with no one inside.

The man is believed to have fled the hotel via the fire escape with his belongings.

Investigations ongoing

Investigators found blood-stained bedsheets along with broken mirrors, shattered bottles and scattered items inside the room, Reuters reported.

According to a local police officer, closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage was immediately reviewed to try to track down the man.

Immigration records later revealed that the Chinese national had departed Thailand through Suvarnabhumi International Airport and returned to China before Bell had formally filed her police report.

"Investigators are currently gathering evidence as the victim is still recovering from her injuries. Police are preparing to expedite the investigation and compile a case file to request an arrest warrant," the officer said.

Bell received a total of 30 stitches — 18 to her face, eight to her wrist and four to her ankle.

She said she intends to pursue legal action.

"If my friends hadn't come to help in time, it could have ended much worse," she said. "I heard he's now trying to escape, but I've already reported everything to the police."
