In response to queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it was alerted to a fire at Block 56 Telok Blangah Heights at about 7pm.
When firefighters arrived, they observed black smoke coming out from a ninth-floor unit.
They had to carry out a forced entry into the flat.
The fire, which involved a mattress in the living room, was extinguished by SCDF firefighters using a water jet.
One individual was assessed for burn injuries and taken to Singapore General Hospital.
About 48 residents were evacuated from the block as a precautionary measure.
In a Facebook post on the same day, Tanjong Pagar GRC MP Rachel Ong said she had visited residents of the block.
Water and electricity supplies were apparently not disrupted.
Temporary housing and support have been arranged for the affected individuals.
She expressed gratitude towards the SCDF for their “very swift response”.
Investigations are ongoing.
