Thai wife says husband of 23 years had affair with monk, leaves their shared home with S$235

A Thai woman from Prachin Buri province in Central Thailand, who was married to her husband for 23 years, has alleged that he left her after having an affair with a Buddhist monk.

According to Khaosod English, the story first came to light on May 2, 2026, when a Facebook page shared the woman's story.

The woman also alleged that her husband asked her to accept a three-person relationship, inciting the woman to leave their home with 6,000 baht (S$235) to start anew.

The allegations went viral on Thai social media, and netizens criticised the man and the monk for their actions, as it was a breach in monastic discipline.

Thai reporters visited temple

Thai reporters visited the temple in Nakhon Ratchasima in northeastern Thailand on May 4 to verify the claims.

A monk interviewed said that the monk in the adultery allegations was a reclusive man who rarely interacted with others and that he was not seen at the temple recently.

The monk who was interviewed also confirmed that the monk in the allegations was not affiliated with the temple, reported Khaosod English.

The monk in the allegations is currently registered at a temple in Det Udom district, Udon Ratchathani province, said officials.

The officials added that they were unaware of the monk's conduct and could not confirm the allegations.

Temple issues statement

The Wat Bueng Phra Aram Luang temple, where the monk studied Buddhist scriptures in July 2025, clarified that the monk was not part of its clergy, reported Khaosod English.

In their statement, the temple added that the monk had left the temple in October 2025 after a temporary stay.

The temple also said that any alleged behaviour was a personal matter and not connected to the institution, asking the public to await verification from relevant authorities.
