'Why shouldn't we? We're the winners': Trump floats idea of US charging toll on Strait of Hormuz
Conference.
U.S. President Donald Trump said they could destroy every bridge in Iran, and put every power plant "out of business" if Iran does not agree to an agreement by Apr. 7.
In a White House press conference on Apr. 6 (U.S. time), Trump said talks with Iran are "going well" but said the opening of the Strait of Hormuz must be part of the deal.
"I would say it's a very big priority," Trump said when asked about the importance of the opening to successful talks.
In response to a question on if he would end the war with Iran continuing to charge tolls for passage through the strait, Trump asked "What about us charging tolls?"
When asked if that was indeed a possibility, Trump said he "rather do that than let them have them".
He said: "Why shouldn't we? We're the winner."
He however did say that a deal must include "free traffic of oil."
Trump also warned of "complete demolition" which would happen "over a period of four hours" if they wanted.
"We don't want that to happen," he said.
Trump also threatened jail for the journalists that reported a second airmen was missing in Iran.
In his remarks at a White House press conference, Trump blamed a "leaker" for Iran finding out that a second airman was downed.
He said they were "trying very hard" to find that leaker.
Trump also chastised countries that he felt had not helped enough during the Iran war.
In particular, Trump called NATO a "paper tiger", and said Russian President Putin was not scared of them.
