A private ambulance transporting a 70-year-old patient was caught in a multi-vehicle accident, resulting in all four people on board being sent to the hospital.

The accident occurred at about 9am on Apr. 29, reported Shin Min Daily News.

The ambulance, belonging to private operator Grace Ambulance and Services, was travelling on the Kranji Expressway (KJE) towards the Pan Island Expressway (PIE), just past Sungei Tengah, when two vehicles ahead of it collided.

The ambulance's driver slammed on the brakes, but was unable to stop in time and crashed into a van in front, he told the media outlet.

The sudden stop caused a lorry to crash into the ambulance from behind, leaving the rear of the ambulance crushed.

According to Shin Min, the accident site was covered in vehicle debris, and traffic was significantly slowed.

The headlights and windscreen of the van were also shattered.

All four occupants of the ambulance, which included two medical staff, a patient and a driver aged between 41 and 70, sustained injuries of varying degrees.

A first responder who witnessed the accident told Shin Min that the 70-year-old elderly patient fell from her seat due to the impact, but her condition was not serious.

However, a male medical worker was bleeding from the face and lying on the ground, unable to move.

Suspecting he had sustained a fracture, the first responder administered first aid before paramedics arrived,

All four victims were transported to Ng Teng Fong hospital conscious, SCDF told Mothership.

Responding to queries from Mothership, the police said they were alerted to an accident involving one lorry, one tipper truck, one van, and one private ambulance along KJE towards PIE.

A 56-year-old male private ambulance driver and three of his passengers, aged between 41 and 70, were conveyed conscious to the hospital. Police investigations are ongoing.
