U.S. president Donald Trump says he has agreed to talks with Iranian leadership.

In an exclusive by The Atlantic, Trump said he had been approached by Iran's new leadership to talk.

Trump said they "should have done it sooner".

While he would not disclose when the talks would happen, he did talk about how the strikes had affected the leadership.

He said some of the Iranian leaders involved in negotiations in recent weeks were no longer alive.

"Most of those people are gone. Some of the people we were dealing with are gone, because that was a big — that was a big hit."

Trump then reiterated that the leadership should have come to a deal sooner, but that they "played too cute".

Trump has given regular updates on the war, with one Truth Social post sarcastically saying the Iranian navy was doing well.

In his latest speech on Truth Social, Trump paid tribute to three U.S. servicemen who died, and said they would avenge their deaths.

He also said the war could last weeks.
