S'pore begins crow shooting in Yishun, to expand to Bishan, Tampines, Jurong & more over next few weeks
Chee Hong Tat said that "strict safety protocols" have been implemented as part of the shooting operations.
Singapore started crow shooting operations in Yishun on Mar. 24, said Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat.
Over the next few weeks, the National Parks Board (NParks) will also begin crow shooting in eight other districts — Bishan, Jurong, Kranji, Punggol, Sembawang, Tampines, Toa Payoh, and Woodlands.
This will then be scaled up to more areas.
In his Mar. 25 Facebook post, Chee said that this complements existing crow management efforts, including trapping, nest removal, and reducing food sources.
Members of the public can play their part by not feeding pest birds and ensuring that food scraps are properly disposed of, he said.
Crow shooting
Chee said that "strict safety protocols" have been implemented as part of the shooting operations.
Cordons and clear signs will be put up to advise the public to stay away, and auxiliary police officers will also be deployed on the ground.
Earlier on Feb. 23, Chee announced that the government would resume crow shooting operations from the second half of March.
It had previously ceased this in 2020.
House crows are an invasive, non-native species in Singapore and pose a threat to biodiversity.
NParks said that since 2020, the crow population in Singapore has increased, with crow-related feedback tripling from 2020 to 2025.
Feedback on crow aggression surged from over 460 cases in 2020 to more than 2,000 cases in 2025, it added.
