5-way vehicle collision along SLE blocks almost the entire roadway
The incident occurred on the SLE towards the BKE, just after the Upper Thomson exit.
The SLE heading towards the BKE was nearly entirely blocked off after a major road accident involving two trucks, two lorries, and a motorcycle.
Five vehicle collision
The incident took place on Mar. 14 at before 10m.
Videos and pictures of the incident were shared on social media, with at least one from ROADS.sg showing the incident in real time.
Pictures showed two large trucks, one of which was a tipper truck, stopped in the leftmost lane of the SLE.
Video of the incident showed the tipper truck colliding with one of the lorries, which caused a cascade where the lorry impacted another lorry in front of it, which in turn hit a heavy truck ahead of it.
The two lorries, sandwiched between two trucks much larger than they were, were squeezed out of the lane, causing the front lorry to flip onto its side and come to rest across the middle lane.
The back lorry shot out further, smashing into the road divider and coming to rest in the rightmost lane.
Unfortunately, a motorcycle rider in the rightmost lane was caught up in the incident, colliding with the back lorry's driver-side door.
"Rabak"
This resulted in all three lanes being blocked off, with oncoming traffic forced to travel through the emergency lane in order to get through.
Both lorries appeared to have extensive damage to their front cabs, particularly the one in the rightmost lane.
One video showed a man in a white shirt appearing to be trying to talk to someone in the driver's seat of the upright lorry.
Another showed the other side of the incident where items from the lorries were strewn across the road, with the video taker repeating the Malay word “rabak” (terrible) over and over.
Five taken to hospital
SCDF, responding to a query from Mothership, confirmed the incident and the timing, reporting that the incident had taken place just after the Upper Thomson Exit.
The SCDF said that upon arrival, they found two persons from different lorries trapped in the lorries' driver's seats.
The two men were rescued by the SCDF using hydraulic equipment.
SCDF later transported three persons to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital and another two persons to Woodlands Hospital.
All were reported to be conscious.
The SPF, also responding to a query by Mothership, reported that the five people taken to hospital were the drivers of the two lorries, aged 42 and 37, two male lorry passengers, aged 28 and 52, as well as a 32-year-old male motorcyclist.
Police investigations are ongoing.
