Police in India are looking for four men after they allegedly gang-raped a 90-year-old woman on Mar. 4.

According to the Hindustan Times, the woman was sleeping alone at home in the Khandwa district when the men entered her house and assaulted her.

They also allegedly tried to kill her following the rape.

The incident was only reported after the woman's daughter kept buying medical supplies from a pharmacy, which raised suspicion.

Masked men allegedly tried to throw her into well

The woman, who was living alone in a house on a farm, was sleeping when four masked men entered her house and brutally gang-raped her.

Afterwards, they tried to kill her by throwing her into a well but stopped when they heard that there were people nearby.

They then abandoned her in the field and escaped.

Villagers later found her injured at the location on the morning of Mar. 5.

Local police said that the woman's daughter later returned home and noticed that her mother had multiple injuries.

They initially concealed the incident due to "social stigma".

The owner of a pharmacy later reported the incident to the police on Mar. 6 after the daughter kept returning to the store to buy bandages and medicines.

Ongoing manhunt for suspects, reward offered for their capture

The woman was admitted to Khandwa District Hospital at around 2am on Mar. 7.

Police said investigations are ongoing and efforts are under way to track down the suspects.

They also announced a reward of 10,000 rupees (S$138) for information leading to the men's arrest.
