Woman in Sengkang finds swarm of bees in corner of her toilet
Minding their bees-ness in people's toilets.
A Sengkang resident was shocked when she entered her toilet and found what appeared to be a beehive in the corner.
The woman, Liu, told Shin Min Daily News that she noticed a dark shadow above her head when she went to the bathroom to wash up after returning home at around 7pm on Feb. 26.
"There were also a few insects flying around, and upon closer inspection, they turned out to be bees."
In a video she provided, thousands of bees could be seen gathered on a toilet wall, seemingly building a nest, Shin Min reported.
Liu was so frightened that she quickly ran out of the restroom and shut the door to prevent the bees from flying out of the toilet.
Called pest control
"I immediately searched online and found out that bees usually build their nests outdoors, so I don't know why they were in the toilet," she said.
She then called a pest control company for help.
Around 9pm, the pest control workers arrived and removed the bees. The whole process took about half an hour.
Shin Min reported that thousands of bees were left behind after the fumigation.
According to Liu, the pest control workers said the bees might have flown into her home while looking for a new habitat.
What to do around bees?
While some may be afraid of bees, they are not pests.
Instead, they are important pollinators of plants and predators of other invertebrates.
If you see a hive in the park, keep your distance to refrain from provoking the bees and inform NParks of the hive by calling their hotline 1800-471-7300.
If you encounter a swarm at home, remain calm and do not attempt to remove the cluster.
You can also enlist the assistance of beekeepers in Singapore who will remove the bees in a humane manner.
