A ComfortDelGro taxi driver was allegedly caught watching videos on his phone while driving passengers.

When informed not to do so, he reportedly became upset and asked the passengers to alight midway through the journey.

A user on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu said she and her husband had hailed a ComfortDelGro taxi around midnight on Mar. 1 after watching a movie.

After getting into the vehicle, the couple — who were seated in the back — noticed through the rearview mirror that the driver appeared to be repeatedly looking at his phone while driving, reported 8world News.

Asked driver to stop

After tolerating it for some time, the couple decided to ask the driver to stop watching the video while driving.

Shortly after, the driver allegedly put on his headphones and continued using his phone.

The woman’s husband then reminded the driver again not to look at his phone.

The driver reportedly responded irritably, saying he was only listening and not watching.

He then told the couple he would drop them off by the roadside, adding: “Now who’s hurting whom?”

Dropped off at bus stop

The Xiaohongshu user told 8world News that she and her husband eventually agreed to alight at a nearby bus stop before using another ride-hailing app to book a taxi home.

She added that she later lodged a complaint through the ComfortDelGro website.

The company responded that it had issued a warning to the driver.

Although ComfortDelGro offered a refund and an additional S$10 voucher as compensation, the couple declined, saying their intention in reporting the incident was not to seek compensation.

Instead, they said they hoped to raise awareness and encourage vigilance to reduce the risk of traffic accidents.

ComfortDelGro told 8world News that it is aware of the incident and has been in contact with the passengers.
