The Singapore Police Force (SPF) arrested a teenager on Feb. 7 after he allegedly brandished a knife in public in Bukit Panjang.

Threatening to stab people

A video on SGfollowsall showed multiple police officers arresting an individual near a futsal court.

The location tag was Fajar Basketball Court in Bukit Panjang, and the caption stated that a "kid came brandishing a knife”, and claimed that they had been “threatening to stab people”.

In the video, a crowd had gathered on the other side of the court, well out of the way of the police, with several people filming the incident.

The video was filmed through the fence of the futsal court, showing what appeared to be at least four policemen after they had subdued an individual who was lying on the ground.

The video taker asked those around him if the individual was alone, saying, “Eh, there’s only one guy, right?”

"Are they holding guns?"

One of the onlookers also asked, “Are they holding guns?”, possibly referring to the police.

People could be heard shouting in Chinese to not go any closer, with one person saying “bu yao kacau (don’t disturb)", likely telling others not to get in the way of the police.

The onlooking crowd appeared jovial despite what was going on, and expressed their disbelief with some profanity, including one remarking “siao eh, chicken buttock”.

18-year-old arrested

Responding to queries from Mothership, the SPF said that they had received a call for assistance at Block 518 Jelapang Road.

This is across a road and a canal from where the video was filmed.

The SPF said that an 18-year-old male teenager was arrested for carrying an offensive weapon in a public place, and that a knife had been seized as a case exhibit.

No injuries were reported, and police investigations are ongoing.
