His attackers continued beating him even after he lost consciousness.
A 26-year-old businessman from India was allegedly kicked, punched and struck with a brick in South Delhi after he tried to stop a group of men from harassing three women.
The assault took place in the early hours of Feb. 3 near a tea stall. Authorities have managed to arrest four men in connection with the incident.
Brutal assault
According to police, the incident happened at around 5am when three women were standing near a tea stall in Mehrauli waiting for a cab, reported India Today.
Officials said four intoxicated men at the location allegedly began making obscene remarks towards the women.
Mukesh Kumar, a businessman from Sangam Vihar who runs a transport company, intervened as he was passing through the area and told the men to stop.
What began as a verbal confrontation then quickly turned violent.

Investigators said the accused blocked Kumar’s way, pushed him to the ground, and repeatedly punched and kicked him, according to the The Times of India.
One of the men allegedly struck him on the head with a brick, leaving him bleeding heavily, and the attackers continued beating him even after he lost consciousness.
Bystanders and women attempted to intervene
A tea vendor reportedly tried to step in but was threatened and forced to back away.
One of the women recorded the assault on her phone and raised an alert to the authorities.

“The women attempted to intervene and shouted for help,” the officer said, as cited by the Hindustan Times, adding that their actions may have prevented the assault from turning fatal.
However by the time police were alerted, according to India Today, the attackers had fled the scene using a scooter and motorcycle.
Footage of the incident has since circulated online, showing Kumar being attacked at a street corner while others looked on.
Victim hospitalised with head injuries
Kumar was taken to Pt Madan Mohan Malviya Hospital before being referred to a major trauma facility due to the seriousness of his condition.
Medical examinations reportedly confirmed multiple head injuries, temporary loss of consciousness, swelling near the eye, and bleeding from the nose and mouth, reported India Today.
Four arrested
Police said a first information report was registered based on the women’s statement, medical evidence, and the emergency PCR call.
The case has been filed under sections including attempted culpable homicide, wrongful restraint, and offences relating to insulting the modesty of a woman.
A senior officer confirmed that all four suspects have been arrested, as cited by The Times of India.
Police are now reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and questioning witnesses to determine the precise sequence of events.
“Dedicated teams were formed to identify and trace the offenders,” an officer told India Today, adding that further investigation remains ongoing.
