A 38-year-old female car driver is assisting with investigations.
The female driver allegedly involved in a Feb. 6 Chinatown accident that resulted in the death of a six-year-old girl is "overcome with guilt", according to her husband.
She had been in the area to pick up her own son, also six years old. He had been in the car at the time and was badly shaken and crying.
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the woman's husband said that she has been driving for over 10 years.
"When she called me, she couldn't stop crying... She is truly blaming herself and feels immense guilt," he said.
He added that she immediately alighted from the car to check on the victims and called for an ambulance.
In photos and videos shared online, the woman could be seen standing in apparent distress near the scene.
She continued to hover over the scene as passers-by attended to the injured girl and her mother.
Victims were from Indonesia
According to eyewitnesses, a dark-coloured BYD car had been exiting the car park and making a right turn when it hit the mother and daughter.
The girl and her mother had been crossing the road, while the father had walked ahead and was pushing a stroller with their two-year-old child.
While the mother appeared to have suffered minor injuries, the girl was dragged under the car and was bleeding profusely.
Her father was later seen holding her in his arms and crying for help.
She and her mother were conveyed to hospital, but the girl later succumbed to her injuries.
Shin Min reported that the girl and her parents are Indonesian tourists on holiday in Singapore.
The Indonesian Embassy in Singapore said that officials have met with the girl's father and are rendering assistance to the family.
Earlier, the Singapore Police Force told Mothership that investigations are ongoing.
