Man, 41, charged for snatching McDonald's cheeseburgers & nuggets from another man in Sembawang
He cycled up to the victims around 1:38am and looked "determined".
After leaving a McDonald's outlet at Sun Plaza, a pair of siblings were stunned when a man suddenly approached them and snatched their bag of burgers and nuggets.
According to the victims, the 41-year-old Singaporean had cycled up to them and said, "I want burger."
The bag contained two cheeseburgers that the siblings had bought for their mother, and some leftover nuggets, CNA reported.
Mohammad Hisyam Basheer was charged with using criminal force to commit theft, according to a charge sheet seen by Mothership.
His court trial began on Feb. 23.
A McDonald's supper
The 20-year-old victim, Christopher Joseph Peter, went to the fast food restaurant with his sister for a meal around midnight on May 18, 2025.
Peter told the court that he and his sister bought 20 pieces of nuggets, which he guessed cost S$10 or S$14, and had some left over.
They placed the remaining nuggets in a bag with two cheeseburgers that cost S$7.70, which they bought for their mother, and left the restaurant.
The snatch theft
Testifying in court, Peter's sister said a man cycled towards them, then got off his bicycle and said, "I want burger".
She recalled feeling extremely confused and stunned.
According to Peter, the bag of food tore when the man grabbed it from his hand.
"He bent down slightly, picked up the McDonald's bag [and] said, 'F*** off', before cycling away," Peter said, as quoted by CNA.
He added that the thief looked "determined", and the alleged theft happened very quickly.
"I was just like, what is happening? Is this real?" he said.
The siblings called the police and their mother, then waited in the McDonald's for the officers.
Difficult to identify the cyclist
CCTV footage of the incident was played in court, but as it happened at about 1:38am, it was too dark to make out the cyclist's face clearly.
When Peter's sister was asked in court if the cyclist was Hisyam, she was unsure.
Hisyam has been remanded for almost nine months, according to CNA.
Appearing in court on Feb. 23 in a mask and a prison jumpsuit, he refused to speak.
He wanted to change his spoken language to Arabic, despite using English and Malay in previous court sessions.
When the judge asked Hisyam if he was going to plead guilty or claim trial, he said nothing, and only slowly shrugged his shoulders.
Hisyam has previously faced charges, including for throwing a burger towards the Burger King kitchen at Changi Airport Terminal 1, and pushing utensils and condiments off the counter.
These charges have been temporarily put on hold.
His current charge of theft using criminal force could see him jailed for one to seven years, and caned, if convicted.
