S'pore man, 54, molests daughter, then 16, after finding nudes in her phone, gets 6 years' jail

A 54-year-old man in Singapore has been sentenced to six years' jail on Feb. 23, 2026 for sexually abusing his daughter, then 16, after finding out that she had sent nude photographs to a classmate.

CNA reported that nine months of the six years is in lieu of caning as he is above 50, which means he cannot be caned.

The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter, pleaded guilty to three counts of outraging his daughter's modesty while causing her to be in fear of instant hurt.

Another three charges were taken into consideration.

Grandparents' house

The abuse occurred in May 2024, when the victim's father conducted a check on her phone.

The court heard that she was 16 at the time of the abuse, CNA reported.

Her father discovered that the victim had sent her male classmate nude photos and intimate videos of herself, and her classmate had also sent explicit photos to her.

Following this, he took the victim and her younger sister to their grandparents' home on May 12, 2024.

Told to strip, molested

He then asked the victim to go into the bedroom while her grandparents were watching TV in the living room.

After joining her in the room and locking the door, the man sat on the bedframe and angrily told her to strip.

Knowing her father had seen the contents of her phone, the girl apologised but refused to strip.

The man then raised his voice, repeatedly commanding her to strip and the girl complied as she knew her father to be hot-tempered and feared that she could be hurt.

After the victim had stripped naked, the man molested her.

When she tried to back away, he told her to keep quiet and said she had "asked for it".

The man then climbed on top of the victim after getting her to lie down, after which he molested her and told her not to cry.

He later told her to get dressed after there was a sudden knock at the door.

Shower

After leaving the bedroom together and returning home before midnight on May 13, 2024, the man told his daughter to shower while keeping the door open, to which she complied.

When she was done, the man asked the victim to "let him look".

She reluctantly unwrapped her towel briefly before wrapping herself again in it out of fear that she could be hurt.

On the man's instructions, the girl retrieved clothes from her room before returning to the toilet where she got dressed in front of her father.

When the man asked her why there was a nude photo of a male on her phone, the victim said her classmate had sent it to her.

The man then angrily asked if she wanted to see his genitalia.

Ran away

After the man commanded the girl to sit on his lap where he molested and scolded her, she ran away from home and sought refuge with her aunt.

On the night where the girl's father found her and took her home, she told her mother about what happened and her mother confronted her father.

The man then admitted that he had told his daughter to lie naked and touched her to "teach her a lesson".

Following this, the girl's mother took her to file a police report, which saw the man being arrested that same day and remanded since.

Penalties

In light of the abuse, prosecutors sought five to six years' jail, with nine months in lieu of caning.

They cited a high degree of sexual exploitation which included skin-to-skin contact and the causing of pain.

In addition, the man had locked the door in the first incident, with restraint involved when he climbed on top of his daughter who was only 16 at the time.

Offenders who use criminal force to outrage a person's modesty, while putting them in fear of instant hurt can be jailed for between two and 10 years, and can also be caned.

If the victim is someone the offender is in a close relationship with, the maximum penalties are doubled.
