A factory bus caught fire near a rest stop along the Second Link between Singapore and Malaysia in the early hours of Feb. 9.

It happened at the Gelang Patah Southbound Rest and Relax (R&R) area, the New Straits Times reported.

No passengers were on board, and no injuries were reported.

The Johor State Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 6:40am that morning.

"About 65 per cent of the vehicle was damaged, primarily in the engine compartment," the fire and rescue department's operations commander said.

According to him, the bus driver was not there when firefighters arrived at the scene.

The fire was fully extinguished by 7:41am, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Footage

Videos of the bus on fire were shared online by witnesses who were crossing the Second Link at the time.

The bus was engulfed in thick flames throughout, and the windows and sides appeared to have melted.

Although there were many cars and motorcycles at the time, the bus was stopped on the rightmost lane of the expressway, away from the traffic.
